Getting Started

Caveats

This plugin is brand new, and will have bugs. Please do not try and use it on live sites (yet).

It should really be treated as an alpha release (pre-beta) as I want to get some feedback and see what people think.

Installing

Go to Plugins > Add New and Upload the Zip File you have been sent.

Once the plugin is installed and activated, you’ll see two new menu items:

  • Events – Add and manage your event listings. The plugin includes default styling, but you’re free to override it.
  • GF Events – Access the plugin’s settings, this guide, and the main “All Attendees” screen which lists all bookings on your site.

Create a Form

Create a booking or registration form using Gravity Forms (if you haven’t already), before getting started with GF Events.

Each form should include at least the following fields:

  • Name Field
  • Email Field
  • Product Field
  • Total Field
  • (Optional) Quantity/Number Field

Once your form is ready, go to GF Events → Settings:

  1. Select your form(s) for use with the plugin and click save.
  2. You will now see extra fields to map the basic field IDs for each form. This is really just so we show the correct information when view attendee information on the Event Edit screen. The export function works independently.

Other Options

Feel free to try and test any of the other options but the form mapping is a minimum requirement.

Creating Events

You’re now ready to start creating events! Head to Events → Add New and build your event with date, time, and any other info.

Embed your chosen Gravity Form before publishing. You can reuse one form across all events or assign different forms per event.

Each form submission will be automatically linked to the correct event, and attendee info will be displayed.

Testing

You can now view the event or try out one of the shortcodes. Fill out your form and then come back to the event you created and refresh the page. The booking information and export options should now be populating as entries are added.

Where to View Attendees

  • Individual Event Edit Screen – Includes full export options.
  • GF Events → All Attendees – Basic name/contact export.
  • User Profile – Shows all of that user’s bookings with links.

Note: Exporting from the individual Event gives you the richest data (all form fields).

Troubleshooting

When you first try and load events on the front end, you might see a 404 page. If that happens, go to Settings > Permalinks and without changing any options, click Save. Your Events should then load as originally expected.

Feedback

I have 20 years experience using WordPress and nearly half that with GravityForms, but this is my first plugin. Any feedback is welcome! Just email me at info@418design.co.uk.
